R.I. Hospital expands mammography services

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island Hospital has added a new screening center within its Anne C. Pappas Center for Breast Imaging to meet increasing demand for digital mammography, which the Pappas Center was the first in the state to offer.
The new facility, at Two Dudley St., uses only digital units and is geared to women requiring routine screening mammograms, with faster appointment availability and shorter waits than patients had faced before, the hospital said in a news release.
The center also offers other diagnostic imaging services. It is the only facility in the state to have earned a designation as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence from the American College of Radiology, according to the hospital.
“Our new screening center has allowed us to increase our capacity to meet the needs of women in the region,” the center’s director, Dr. Martha Mainiero, said in the news release. “With a long history of exceptional care and the latest in equipment, the women of our region can quickly receive an appointment for a routine screening and feel confident that they are receiving the best possible care.” •

Rhode Island Hospital, a private nonprofit institution founded in 1863, is a founding member of the Lifespan health system and the largest teaching hospital for The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Additional information is available at www.rhodeislandhospital.org .
