R.I. Hospital, Miriam among top for heart care

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital have again been named among the top 100 in the nation for cardiovascular care by Thomson Healthcare, formerly known as Solucient.
Thomson’s annual study recognizes hospitals for superior clinical, operational and financial performance. Both Rhode Island and Miriam were named to the list last year as well, and both are the only hospitals in the state to receive the recognition.
Using Medicare data, each hospital was ranked on eight performance measures: risk-adjusted medical mortality, risk-adjusted surgical mortality, risk-adjusted complications, core measures score, percentage of patients with internal mammary artery use, procedure volume, severity-adjusted average length of stay, and wage- and severity-adjusted average cost.
Rhode Island and Miriam, both teaching hospitals with cardiovascular residency programs, were among only 30 hospitals in that category recognized by Thomson’s.
