The R.I. Airport Corporation will receive $10 million in Federal Aviation Administration funds to continue its home-acquisition program in Warwick, U.S. Sen. Jack Reed announced today.
The program “has been essential in helping families living around T.F. Green Airport who have been forced to deal with the problem of airport noise,” Reed said. But, he added, “while this federal funding will go a long way to help … noise issues still persist for many home and business owners.”
The program, which is voluntary for homeowners, is part of RIAC’s efforts to mitigate the effects of airport noise on the surrounding communities.
Reed, who won an increase in FAA funds for soundproofing at T.F. Green, has urged the agency to determine what additional steps are needed to abate airport noise. He has discussed the problem with FAA Noise Director Paul Galis and has helped bring key FAA officials to Rhode Island, to acquaint them with the airport expansion’s effects on the community.
“We are appreciative of the efforts of Senator Reed and the members of our congressional delegation to obtain federal funding for important airport projects,” said Mark Brewer, RIAC’s president and CEO. “This $10 million … will accelerate the buyout of additional homes in Warwick.”
About 100 people will benefit, RIAC said.

The R.I. Airport Corporation is a quasi-public organization, based at T.F. Green Airport in Warwick, responsible for running T.F. Green and the state’s five general aviation airports. Additional information is available at www.pvdairport.com.
