PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island College President Frank D. Sánchez has been appointed by Gov. Gina M. Raimondo as a delegate to the New England Board of Higher Education, the college announced June 13.
“I am honored to accept the governor’s appointment and enthusiastic to serve on the board at a time when higher education is facing such unprecedented change,” said Sánchez in a statement.
Sánchez, who was named RIC president in 2016, will serve a two-year term on the regional board.
Per the RIC release, the NEBHE’s focus includes promoting opportunities for higher education among residents of New England as well as engaging in the assessment and development of education practices or “regional significance,” regional cooperation and leadership to strengthen the connection between higher education and the “economic well-being of New England.”
Previous Rhode Island delegates to the NEBHE include Rep. Gregg Amore, D-East Providence, Commissioner of Postsecondary Education Brenda Dann-Messier, Sen. Louis P. DiPalma, D-Little Compton, Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Rhode Island President Daniel P. Egan, Sen. Hannah M. Gallo, D-Cranston, Rep. Joseph M. McNamara, D-Warwick, and Naomi R. Thompson, the University of Rhode Island’s associate vice president for community, equity and diversity.
