PROVIDENCE – The Exit 3 Gano Street offramp from Interstate 195 West in Providence will be closed effective Sunday night though the fall of 2019, the R.I. Department of Transportation reminded motorists Thursday.
The closure is part of the rehabilitation of the Washington Bridge. Motorists are being encouraged to use Exit 2, the South Main Street exit, and follow detour signs along Pike Street, South Water Street and India Street to get to Gano Street.

RIDOT also said it would establish a temporary on-ramp from Taunton Avenue to I-195 West starting Monday to reduce the impact of work on the bridge.
The department said it expects to open the currently closed Veterans Memorial Parkway and Warren avenue on-ramps in the fall of 2019, with the entire $22.3 Washington Bridge project scheduled to wrap up in the fall of 2020. The project is part of RhodeWorks, the state transportation infrastructure rehabilitation initiative partially funded by tolls in the state on large trucks.
