The department also will close a section of South Main Street, from India Street to Tockwotton Street and a section of Tockwotton Street, between South Main Street and South Water Street, in order to better accommodate detouring traffic.

RIDOT also said it would establish a temporary on-ramp from Taunton Avenue to I-195 West starting Monday to reduce the impact of work on the bridge.

The department said it expects to open the currently closed Veterans Memorial Parkway and Warren avenue on-ramps in the fall of 2019, with the entire $22.3 Washington Bridge project scheduled to wrap up in the fall of 2020. The project is part of RhodeWorks, the state transportation infrastructure rehabilitation initiative partially funded by tolls in the state on large trucks.
