PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Department of Transportation will invest more than $90 million in 2018 paving projects, the department announced Thursday.
RIDOT said it has plans to spend $80.8 million on 15 projects in 2018, and $10 million on pavement preservation efforts.

Learn More“While many people associate RhodeWorks with our efforts to rebuild our bridges, it is much more than that,” RIDOT Director Peter Alviti Jr. said in a statement. “It is a comprehensive, data-driven approach to rebuild our entire transportation infrastructure. This year we’ll make a sizeable dent in repaving our roads.”
The projects include four highway projects and 11 non-highway projects.
Highway paving projects include:
- Interstate 95 from Route 2 to Service Avenue in Warwick: $8.8 million, scheduled for mid-July through September
- Route 24 from Hummocks Avenue to West Main Road in Portsmouth: $8.1 million, work is underway and is scheduled to finish in November
- Route 1 from Succotash Road to Charlestown town line in South Kingstown: $7.1 million, work is underway and the paving piece of the project is scheduled to finish in early June, while the entire project expected to finish in early fall
- I-95 in Pawtucket, in the area of Exits 29 and 30, from Walcott Street to Woodbine Street: $5 million, with work underway that is scheduled to finish at the end of June
Non-highway paving projects:
- $9.5 million to pave 2.3 miles of East Main Road in Portsmouth, from Boyds Lane to Turnpike Avenue: Scheduled for August-November
- $5.9 million to pave 3.5 miles of Route 6 (Hartford Avenue) in Johnston and Scituate from just before the I-295 overpass to the Danielson Pike: Scheduled for November
- $5.1 million to pave 4.3 miles of Woodville Road in Hopkinton and Richmond from Route 3 to Switch Road: Scheduled for May and June
- $4.9 million to pave 1.6 miles of Route 1A (Newport Avenue) in Pawtucket from Federal Street to the Massachusetts border: Work ongoing and scheduled to end in the spring of 2019
- $4.7 million to pave 1.5 miles of Route 6A (Hartford Avenue) in Johnston from Atwood Avenue to Killingly Street: Scheduled for August through October
- $4.2 million to pave 3.1 miles of Route 6 in Scituate from Route 102 to Route 101: Scheduled for September through the spring of 2019
- $3.9 million to pave 1.8 miles of Nayatt Road in Barrington, from Rumstick Road to Washington Road: Scheduled for August through Summer 2019
- $3.9 million to pave 1.7 miles of Route 2 (Reservoir Avenue) in Cranston from Park Avenue to Sockanosset Cross Road: Scheduled for September through November
- $3.2 million to pave 1 mile of Railroad Street in Lincoln, from Route 126 (Old River Road) to Manville Hill Road): Scheduled for June through November
- $2.6 million to pave 1.4 miles of Rockland Road in Scituate from Central Pike to Danielson Pike: Scheduled for June through Spring 2019
- $2.1 million to pave 2.5 miles of Winsor Avenue in Johnston, from Greenville Avenue to West Greenville Road: Work is ongoing and is scheduled to continue through August
RIDOT’s $10 million for pavement preservation in 2018 will be used for 100 miles of crack sealing in 23 communities, 26 miles of chip sealing in 10 communities and 10 miles of thin overlay on roads in seven communities.
