PROVIDENCE – The Westminster Street on-ramp to Route 10 South in Providence will close Monday, Nov. 4, and is projected to remain closed until fall 2023, the R.I. Department of Transportation announced Monday.

The closure is part of the Route 6/10 Interchange Project. The closure is required to install steel beams for a new ramp to connect Route 10 South to Route 6 West.

RIDOT said motorists will be able to access Route 10 in different locations, depending on the direction they are traveling.

One access point available to motorist accessing the highway from the west of the Route 6/10 highway corridor will be the Hartford Avenue or Plainfield Street on-ramps to Route 6 East and then subsequently taking the exit for Route 10 South.

Motorists accessing Route 10 from the east may follow Tobey Street or Broadway to Harris Avenue to take the Tobey Street on-ramp to Route 6 West then taking the exit at Hartford Avenue to reverse direction to Route 6 East, then taking the Route 10 South exit.

RIDOT Chief Public Affairs Officer Charles St. Martin said the closure is not expected to make an appreciable impact but noted that RIDOT will be monitoring traffic following the closure.

The 6/10 interchange project is part of RhodeWorks.
