PROVIDENCE – The Ocean State’s website, www.RI.gov, was named a finalist in the 2010 Best of the Web awards, announced e.Republic, a publishing, research and new media company, on Sept. 1.

For the 15th year, the BOW awards ranked government portals based on their innovation, functionality and efficiency.

Rhode Island was a finalist, along with Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont and Virginia.

California’s www.ca.gov ranked No. 1 followed by Arkansas in second and Alabama in third place.

The BOW awards also recognized the best websites for U.S. cities and counties. Boston ranked highest amongst cities while Chesterfield County, Va., came out on top in its category.

“This skilled use of the Web … provides examples to state and local government leaders around the country on how to bring quality services to their citizens while containing costs,” said Cathilea Robinett, executive director of e.Republic’s Center for Digital Government.

E.Republic also recognized 50 government agencies and department websites with Digital Government Achievement Awards. Colorado Tax Tracks, Hawaii Electronic Bench Warrants and NYC 311 Online were some of the winning websites.
