RIHEBC awards $483K for COVID-19 expenses

PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Health and Educational Building Corp. has awarded $483,054 in grants to 51 health, education and community service organizations to help pay for COVID-19-related expenses, the state financing agency announced on Thursday.

The funds, which come from the What’s Important Now grant program, ranged from $2,400 to $10,000 for grants that included purchasing air purifiers, plexiglass shields, cleaning supplies, technology and personal protection equipment.

“The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has placed unprecedented stresses on Rhode Island’s nonprofit health, education and community-service organizations,” said Kim Mooers, executive director of RIHEBC. “That’s why in November our board created the What’s Important Now Grant program to assist these institutions with their most pressing COVID-related expenses.”

“We have been using copious amounts of personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies, and this WIN grant will help tremendously in offsetting these costs,” said Judith Sullivan, president and CEO of the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center, which serves individuals with disabilities. The center received a $10,000 grant from RIHEBC.
