LANDSDOWNE, Va. – A Rhode Island School of Design graduate has been named one of 34 students selected for what has been called the most generous academic award offered in the United States.
YuJune Park, 24, of Greensboro, N.C., will have the cost of her graduate studies – tuition, room, board, fees and books – covered, up to $300,000, by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Program.
Park, who graduated from RISD in 2005 with a degree in furniture design, plans to seek a master of fine arts degree at Yale University.
The foundation said 977 students applied for the scholarship, and the winners were selected on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, as well as the will to succeed, leadership and community involvement.
The scholarship winners come from 20 states and 11 foreign nations, and they will study in wide-ranging fields, including architecture, education, law, medicine and painting.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation was established in 2000 to help young people reach their full potential through education. For more information, go to www.jackkentcookefoundation.org.
