NEWPORT – The R.I. Turnpike and Bridge Authority’s RI Bridge Bike Shuttle service will operate through Oct. 13, Bike Newport announced Friday.

During the months of September and October, the shuttle service will not require reservations. The service is free, and runs in North Kingstown, Jamestown and Newport.

The service operates on Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Riders just have to call the shuttle operator for pickup and delivery among the three shuttle stops. The service promises a wait of no longer than 30 minutes to cross the Pell and Verrazano bridges.

“The buzz about the shuttle among bicyclists was great,” explained Bari Freeman of Bike Newport. “Yet, as excited as people are to have a way across, they were looking for more flexibility both going and returning. The new on-call schedule means that for the remainder of the season anyone can call and speak directly with the driver to arrange their pickup.”

Riders can call the shuttle operator at (401) 430-0420 for pickup during its hours of operation.
