Roger Williams pageant raises money for hospital

A group of 10 male Roger Williams University students competed with one another in pursuit of the coveted “Mr. RWU” crown, in the process raising $12,831 for the Children’s Miracle Network – an alliance of nonprofit hospitals that provide affordable medical care to needy children.
As a part of the annual Mr. RWU Spectacular, contestants raised money by campaigning throughout the semester. The contestants carried bottles around campus collecting donations from the RWU community and during the week prior to homecoming, Mr. RWU contenders auctioned off dates to the Homecoming Ball to raise funds. The University’s Inter-Residence Hall Association – sponsors of Mr. RWU Spectacular – raised additional money by selling pageant tickets, Mr. RWU calendars and T-shirts.
During the pageant, contestants participated in an opening dance sequence, a talent segment and a question-and-answer portion. In the past six years, the Mr. RWU pageant has raised more than $62,000 for the organization. •
