RWH cancer program commended

PROVIDENCE – The cancer program at Roger Williams Medical Center has been granted a three-year approval with commendation by the American College of Surgeons, hospital officials said today.

Roger Williams is home to the state’s only bone-marrow transplant unit. It received eight of nine possible commendations in the ACS review.

“This impressive survey is the result of continued hard work and dedication from everyone associated with our cancer program,” said Kenneth H. Belcher, the hospital’s president and CEO.

He made specific mention of the Cancer Center’s interim director, Dr. Tatiana Lingos; the Cancer Committee’s current and past chairs, Dr. Charu Taneja and Dr. Frank Cummings; cancer registrar Julia Simmons; Director of Quality Nancy Fogarty; and hospital Vice President Kimberly O’Connell. The hospital also thanked the Cancer Committee’s nine other physician members and 20 non-physician members.
