RWU provides $12K for Civic Activities fund, applications being accepted

BRISTOL – The Town of Bristol/Roger Williams University Cooperative Committee announced this week it is now accepting applications from local groups and organizations for its Fund for Civic Activities.

The fund, according to an RWU news release, has provided money for local food pantries, art projects, automated telephone dialer devices for the elderly, and programs to prevent teen alcohol and substance abuse, among other initiatives.

Available exclusively to Bristol individuals and organizations, the fund was first established in 2007 when the town and the university reached a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement.

Roger Williams University will make $25,000 available this year for the twice-annual program, the release states, with approximately $12,500 available in this cycle.

“In many cases, this fund has provided the seed money for projects that have blossomed into established programs,” said K.C. Ferrara, director of the Feinstein Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement at RWU, in a statement. “The fund has helped to fortify crucial areas of the local community such as the arts, basic human needs, public safety, wellness and education.”

Applications can be downloaded here and are due by April 15. For additional information, call Ferrara at (401) 254-3765 or email her at kferrara@rwu.edu.
