FALL RIVER – Saint Anne’s Hospital has once again received a nationally recognized accreditation for its bariatric surgery programs from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.
The hospital, owned and operated by Brown University Health, earned MBSAQIP Comprehensive Center accreditation, a designation that recognizes bariatric surgery centers that comply with MBSAQIP standards, complete a site visit, perform at least 50 annual bariatric stapling procedures, are approved to perform all American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery-endorsed procedures, and are approved to provide care only to patients 18 and older, according to MBSAQIP’s website.

MBSAQIP is the combined accreditation program for the American College of Surgeons, based in Chicago, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery in Florida.
“Achieving reaccreditation as an MBSAQIP Comprehensive Center is a significant accomplishment and a testament to the outstanding work of our physicians, nurses, clinicians and support staff,” Julie A. Abilheira, president of Saint Anne’s Hospital, said in the hospital’s Aug. 6 announcement.
Saint Anne’s offers gastric sleeve surgery and gastric bypass surgery along with nonsurgical medical weight-loss support, according to the hospital’s website.
“Every member of our team plays an important role in helping patients achieve better health outcomes, and this recognition reflects their unwavering commitment to safe, compassionate, high-quality care,” Abilheira said.
