NEWPORT – Beginning in January, Salve Regina students enrolled in any undergraduate major can now pair their studies with an interdisciplinary, 15-credit cyber resiliency concentration, according to a release from the university late last week.

In a statement, David Smith, chairman of the university’s administration of justice department, said the offer provides students “a baseline education in cyber awareness.”

The university’s release notes an expected 12 percent jump in information and communications technology jobs by 2024, according to U.S. Department of Labor data.

Smith’s statement went on to read: “This interdisciplinary program gives students an opportunity to engage with cyber security through the lens of mathematics, law, justice, philosophy, business, politics, religion and education – among many other fields. We believe this provides students a holistic and well-rounded education that serves them well when entering the work force.”

While interested students must take a prerequisite computer-programming course, cyber resiliency concentration courses will include three required courses – Computer Crime, Information Essentials, and Principles of Forensics – and two electives from course offerings in biology (Bioinformatics), management (Cybercrime in Business), religious and theological studies (Technology, Genetics, God, and the Future of Humanity), and applied technology (Advanced Information Systems).
