PROVIDENCE – The annual Save The Bay swimming of Narragansett Bay was added to the Waterkeeper Alliance’s eighth annual SPLASH event series earlier this summer.

Presented nationally by Toyota, the series of events supports communities via local, water-based activities, including swimming, paddling, kayaking and fishing.

“We are proud to join forces with the Waterkeeper Alliance – an organization that shares our commitment to swimmable, fishable waters – as part of its 8th Annual SPLASH Event Series,” said Jonathan Stone, Save The Bay executive director, in prepared remarks.
The 42nd annual Swim for Narragansett Bay, which will take place Aug. 4, lists Waterkeeper Alliance as a gold medal sponsor.

“Engaging people with their local waterways is a crucial part of securing drinkable, fishable, swimmable water,” said Marc Yaggi, executive director of Waterkeeper Alliance, in a statement.

Also new this year is the role of swim ambassador, which will be filled by Olympic medalist and Rhode Island native Elizabeth Beisel. She will give welcoming remarks, present final awards and participate in the 1.7-nautical-mile swim from Newport to Jamestown.

Additional 2018 sponsors include Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, a silver medal sponsor, as well as Amica Mutual Insurance Co. and Bradford Soap Works Inc., as bronze medal sponsors.

Those interested in registering for the swim, creating a team or making a donation to the event are encouraged to visit swim.savebay.org/2018 to learn more.
