School-maintenance firm announces scholarships

PROVIDENCE – Aramark Corp., which provides maintenance and custodial services at the city’s 53 public schools, has announced the availability of $12,000 in scholarship aid for Providence public school students.
Twelve $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors enrolling in an accredited university, college, community college or two-year vocational/technical school. The funds will be offered through the ARAMARK Scholars Program for “personal college-related expenses.”
The company is also offering three additional $1,000 awards. Two will be presented to community organizations and one will go to the Teacher of the Year from a selected Providence Public School.
To be eligible for the ARAMARK Scholars Program, a student must be enrolled in a Providence public high school and plan to graduate in June 2008. The student must also plan to attend a 2- or 4-year post-secondary school program and have an overall GPA of 2.8. The application must include two letters of recommendation, description of the student’s work experience and extracurricular activity, and a one-page typed essay explaining the student’s goals and how the student will spend the funds &#8226
