PROVIDENCE – United Natural Foods Inc. announced during its investor day that it expects annual net sales growth of $33 billion by fiscal 2028. In its filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Dec. 10, the company outlined its long-term goals and strategic priorities. UNFI ended its 2025 fiscal year on Aug. 2 with a loss of $118 million after reporting a $112 million deficit the year prior. Net sales for the 2025 fiscal year totaled $31.7 billion, an increase from $30.9 billion one year prior. “We are advancing our strategy and building unique capabilities to help our customers and suppliers more effectively differentiate and compete in the marketplace,” said UNFI CEO Sandy Douglas. “We have been successfully executing the strategy we introduced over a year ago, and we are continuing to pursue our aspiration to become the food retail industry’s most valued partner. With our improved financial position and scaled network, we are poised for continued profitable growth and value creation.” The company’s adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) is expected to increase annually by low double digits with an $800 million target for fiscal 2028. Free cash flow is expected increase approximately $300 million from fiscal 2026 to fiscal 2028. To achieve the fiscal 2028 goals, UNFI plans to create new capabilities to add value for retailers and suppliers; develop technology and innovation to drive improved digital capabilities by focusing on simplicity, performance and efficiency; investing in a next- generation supply chain by methodically deploying advanced technologies and maximizing productivity by streamlining selling, general and administrative expenses. “UNFI is taking action to help our customers and suppliers succeed while continuing to generate strong free cash flow that we can invest back into strengthening our network, operating capabilities and balance sheet,” said Matteo Tarditi, UNIF president and chief financial officer. “We are executing and have a high confidence plan to achieve our objectives and create sustained shareholder value.”
