Seven-turbine, onshore wind farm
to begin construction in Johnston

JOHNSTON – Work on a seven-turbine, 21-megawatt onshore wind farm is expected to begin next week, the developer, Green Development LLC, announced Thursday.

The company said it expects the project to be operational by the end of the year. The company said preparation has already begun along Plainfield Pike and Shun Pike.

The company is making a one-time payment to the town of Johnston of $175,000 to establish a scholarship fund. The company is also expected to pay tax payments of $20,000 per year per turbine to the town.

Green Development will operate the turbines following construction. The turbines will sell to the R.I. Convention Center, the town of Scituate and a few housing authorities in Rhode Island, among other to-be-named clients, a spokesman for the company told PBN.
