After more than 15 years in corporate bookkeeping, Dolly Towne decided to bow out when she had her first child. But she soon missed working with numbers and small businesses and returned on her own terms.
As owner of Bookkeeping Towne LLC, she works primarily with startups and catering businesses, helping small businesses with financial records and payrolls. She also is certified to advise clients in QuickBooks, a popular accounting program.
The work has escalated quickly. She recently moved from a coworking space to her own offices in East Providence.
Educated at New England College of Finance, Towne has an associate degree in business management. She’s worked at some of Rhode Island’s largest firms, including FM Global, but she’s at home with smaller business now.
Many of her clients are small food startups that launched at the Hope & Main food incubator in Warren.
“This year I’m really trying to market to catering businesses,” she said. “That’s most of my clients. I think that’s going to be my niche this year.”
