Snow knocks out power overnight across region, parking bans remain in effect

PROVIDENCE – As an early morning storm levels off in the Ocean State, thousands of customers were without power Monday morning, many school days were cancelled and parking bans remain in effect across the state.

The highest snow total in the state was in Burrillville, where it was recorded to have snowed 17 inches overnight. The largest snowfall total in Bristol County, Mass., was in North Attleborough at 13 inches.

The National Weather Service has cancelled the Winter Weather Advisory for all of Rhode Island. Bristol County, Mass., remained under the advisory until 10 a.m.

By 1:30 p.m., National Grid had restored power to all but 23 customers. At that time, over 20 parking bans are in effect in the area.

The R.I. Department of Transportation reported several crashes and spinouts Monday morning as well.

The state government remains open Monday, with exceptions for those who could not make it into work due to the conditions.

A full list of local schools affected, parking bans and health services affected may be viewed here. Providence announced Monday afternoon that its parking ban expires at 2 p.m.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is operating a regular commuter rail schedule.
