SOMERSET – Town zoning officials voted Dec. 9 to delay a decision on the approval of two new businesses at Brayton Point, citing concerns with dust mitigation and traffic monitoring, The Herald News reported.
Eastern Metal Recycling and Allied Salt are each seeking approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals to operate at Brayton Point Commerce Center.
Zoning officials also requested information from the commerce center’s owner, Missouri-based Commercial Development Co., on noise mitigation and drainage at the site.
Residents have been critical of the businesses because they started operations before receiving town permits, the Herald reported.
According to an October press release from Town Administrator Richard Brown, the businesses began operations in August and initially were allowed to stay open despite not filing planned development applications with the town.
Town Building Inspector Paul Boucher said allowing the businesses to operate would be illegal and sent a cease and desist order to the commerce center Oct. 9.
The Zoning Board will reconvene Dec. 19.
