Sophia Academy inducts a new head of school

PROVIDENCE – Sophia Academy, a nonprofit, nondenominational private school middle school for girls from low-income Providence families, has inducted a new head of school.

Gigi DiBello, the former head of middle school at the CVS Highlander School, has been appointed to take over leadership from Sophia Academy’s founder and executive director, Mary Reilly.

Founded in 2001, Sophia Academy, at 979 Branch Ave., offers an alternative for girls who are most at risk of repeating the cycle of poverty. Since its inception, the academy has graduated 56 girls who are attending public and independent high schools throughout the state. •
