
WARWICK – The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded a three-year, $400,000 grant to Saint Elizabeth Community, to increase and strengthen training about abuse against older individuals, the nonprofit organization announced Wednesday.
The funding comes from the DOJ’s Enhanced Training and Services to End Abuse in Later Life program. It was the only Rhode Island and the Providence metropolitan area recipient of such a grant in the most recent round announced.

“We are thrilled to receive this Department of Justice grant,” said Steven J. Horowitz, president and CEO, Saint Elizabeth Community, in a statement. “Working collaboratively with a multitude of organizations, Saint Elizabeth Community seeks to end abuse in Rhode Island of older adults. This grant will help unite many organizations, enhance services for victims and create a multi-disciplinary community response to this problem.”
Saint Elizabeth Community is a nonprofit organization with 11 Rhode Island locations that provides a range of care and services for older adults, including operating nursing homes, rehab centers and assisted living residences, among other services.
