WARWICK – The Steamship Historical Society of America received a $20,000 education grant from the Heritage Harbor Foundation earlier this month to further its outreach efforts.

This grant, in conjunction with a $50,000 National Maritime Heritage Grant awarded in 2016, will fund the development of “Steaming into the Future” – an interactive website that will share some of the museum’s collection with its international online audience.

The website’s focus will begin in 1807, when the first commercial American steamships were in use.

The nonprofit museum, which opened in 2015, was one of nine organizations to which the HHF granted a total $137,000 to increase the level of historical literacy of local adults and school-age youth.
