Rhode Island First Lady, Stephanie Chafee visited the Fit2cook4Kids summer camp on Wednesday at the North Kingstown Community center located at the Town  Beach.  A nurse by training, this is her second year encouraging campers ages 8 to 15 to stay fit, prepare healthy food and communicate effectively.  Mrs. Chafee conducted a lesson on table etiquette while sharing a meal the children prepared.

Fit2cook4Kids is a Rhode Island based solution to the catastrophic epidemic of childhood obesity and related diseases, diabetes, heart disease and cancer.  The program is being developed as an empowering  social franchise.  It currently consists of one week camps for children.  Future plans include expanding to reach ages 5 – 7 through an “Eat Colors” program that incorporates storytelling, song and theatre arts.

Food and Truth, the nonprofit organization that created the Fit2cook4Kids program, is currently looking for companies that are willing to host after work hours “Fit2cook4Families” programs.  For more information go to www.foodandtruth.org or call 401-294-6800.
