PROVIDENCE – Germany-based web developer job-platform site Honeypot has released its 2018 Women in Tech Index, showing the United States offering some of the best opportunities for women in the tech industry – and the highest wages.
In addition to the U.S., Portugal and Latvia also have the best opportunities for women in tech, according to a press release, with a gender pay gap of 6 percent to 7 percent less than the overall wage gap in other countries.

The U.S. led with the highest wages for women in tech, at $86,608, followed by Ireland at $60,558 and Switzerland at $59,029.
The average American tech wage is $98,265.
As for the highest number of women working in tech, however, the U.S. did not make the top three, according to the index. That went to Bulgaria, at 30 percent, followed by Australia and Romania.
Forty-one countries were studied overall, according to Honeypot.
“Gender parity in the workplace is not just an ethical or moral issue, but also an economic one: McKinsey found that $12 trillion could be added to global GDP [gross domestic product] by 2025 by advancing women’s equality,” said Honeypot co-founder Emma Tracey. “With the proportion of female tech workers remaining under 30 percent across the board, we hope that this study will enrich the conversation concerning equality in this industry and inspire more women to seek out opportunities in tech.”
