PROVIDENCE – Suzanne Magaziner will be honored as the 2019 Woman of Wisdom by Sophia Academy, the school announced Tuesday.
The school said the honor recognizes women who have “gone above and beyond throughout their lives to support women, girls and education.”

“We are thrilled to recognize Suzanne,” Maura Farrell, Sophia head of school, said in prepared remarks. “She is a generous and creative leader who has made a critical impact at Sophia. Her compassion fuels a quest to empower young women through education, and her unwavering kindness reflects Sophia’s core values. We’re honored that she is part of our community.”
Magaziner will be honored at a gala on May 6 at the WaterFire Arts Center. The gala is held to “change the lives of girls from low-income homes through an empowering middle school education.”
Magaziner also served on the board for Sophia Academy.
“She has never forgotten the financial generosity of others when it came to achieving her own academic success, and long ago made the commitment to support other young women in their pursuit of a quality education,” Alison Eichler, Sophia board president said in a statement. “Her astute business sense, combined with her genuine big-heartedness has made her a powerful advocate for Sophia.”
Magaziner currently serves as board president of Trinity Repertory Company.
Magaziner founded an international consulting firm with her husband Ira, who was formerly a senior adviser for policy development for President Bill Clinton, and is the mother of R.I. General Treasurer Seth Magaziner.
