WARWICK – Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport is the fastest-growing major airport in the United States, according to the latest data released by the U.S. Department of Transportation, the R.I. Airport Corp. announced Thursday. The federal data includes recently updated passenger numbers from May to October 2024 and the airlines' currently published schedules for the top 75 airports in the U.S. from January to June 2025. Philadelphia International Airport and Washington-Dulles International Airport were ranked behind Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport in passenger and seat growth, respectively, according to the data. Based on Federal Aviation Administration data for other hub airports in the region, T.F. Green was the fastest-growing hub airport in New England in 2024 and offers the most per capita destinations to Rhode Islanders, with 34.7 routes per million population. Growth in passenger volume has been assisted by airport investments made by both the state and federal governments, including destination marketing efforts spearheaded by the Gov. Daniel J. McKee and the General Assembly, according to the R.I. Airport Corp. Other airport infrastructure and facilities improvements have been made possible thanks to federal funds secured by U.S. Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., and the R.I. congressional delegation, who have secured funding for runway and terminal upgrades, with more improvements scheduled for the coming months and years, including new restaurant and retail operations, according to a news release. T.F. Green recently added new nonstop routes, including JetBlue's daily service to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and New York JFK. Also, Southwest Airlines announced daily service to Nashville, Tenn., starting later this spring. Last week, Breeze Airways launched two new routes from T.F. Green in a single day: Daytona Beach, Fla., and Wilmington, N.C. T.F. Green now offers 38 nonstop destinations, including seasonal nonstop service to Los Angeles and same-plane service to seven additional destinations, including New Orleans; Pensacola, Fla.; Memphis, Tenn.; and San Diego. T.F. Green recently announced that it will have international flights to Bermuda on BermudAir beginning in May. The airport has been selected by Breeze Airways as one of its largest hubs, and the airline plans to add international flights from T.F. Green upon FAA approval. This winter, T.F. Green also offers travelers nonstop routes to 10 Florida destinations, more than from Boston Logan Airport, according to the release. To accommodate the increased demand for service, the R.I. Airport Corp. said T.F. Green has made several changes to improve accessibility and customer service. Parking Lot "O," a new discount overflow parking lot located at 581 Airport Road, has opened and is available during high-volume travel periods such as school vacations. In the past year, the airport relocated and expanded its free Cell Phone Waiting Lot, located just a minute drive to the arrivals curb, helping to streamline the passenger pickup experience for all. In January, it was announced that T.F. Green exceeded 4 million passengers in 2024, which was more than before the pandemic in 2019.
