HOLDING STEADY: Anthony Maione is retiring from the United Way of Rhode Island on Dec. 31 after 15 years with the nonprofit, and 13 as CEO. He said competing for funds in Rhode Island has always been difficult, but it’s grown even more so with technology and social media providing alternative fundraising methods such as GoFundMe and Kickstarter.
