Founded in 1985, the Rhode Island Commercial and Appraisal Board of Realtors is the professional resource of advocacy, education and networking for commercial practitioners and real estate appraisers. Since its inception it had used the familiar red “R” symbol for the commercial real estate industry and a stylized version for appraisers – the two groups of professionals who make up the majority of its membership.
In 2012, Tapestry Communications began working with the Marketing Committee of RICABOR, located in downtown Providence, to identify a unique brand, and original logo. One of the goals is to support RICABOR’s increased membership recruitment, including Affiliate members.
Nancy Thomas, owner of Tapestry Communications, and an affiliate member of RICABOR, worked over several months guiding the group through discussions of the new symbol’s potential use, and conducted nationwide research on logos and symbol use in the industry. The group worked from an original group of 6 different graphic designs and color presentations to further discuss and refine their vision.
The final symbol, launched in August of 2013, incorporates the perspectives of the commercial realtors and appraisers who participated in the process. Thomas said, “The stylized symbol reflects the skyline of downtown Providence as well as commercial real estate. The royal blue color and wave/land symbol, which anchors the logo, reflects the ‘ocean state’ feeling of Rhode Island, and the symbol was designed in its entirety to lend itself to multiplatform use.” Tapestry Communications engaged designer Darren Marinelli for the project.
This is one of several full agency branding and logo design completed by Tapestry Communications in an integrative process involving the organization’s leadership in the design process. The last was the former Providence Postal – Federal Credit Union, which included a complete renaming as well as imaging, and they are now, PGE Federal Credit Union.
