PROVIDENCE – Tech Collective last week announced the addition of a new cybersecurity certification boot camp to its training portfolio.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology Cybersecurity Framework served as the basis for the new workforce-development boot camp program, which Tech Collective will now offer in partnership with itSM Solutions LLC and the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.
The boot camp program was created by Larry Wilson, chief information security officer in the UMass President’s Office, and used to train engineering, operations and business teams across UMass’s five campuses before being brought to Rhode Island.
According to Tech Collective, the UMass Lowell NCSF-Controls Factory Model certification training program helps organizations to:
- Develop a strategy to adopt the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
- Create a cybersecurity program that will become policy for an organization.
- Engineer a solution to operationalize the cybersecurity program across an enterprise and its supply chain using the UMass NCSF Controls Factory Model.
- Build and operate a security operations center to continuously monitor and respond to changes in the cybersecurity profile documented in the cybersecurity program.
- Conduct continuous business risk assessments to compare the current profile against the target profile (documented in the plan) to identify any gaps that need to be addressed.
The announcement of Tech Collective’s National Institute of Standards and Technology Cybersecurity Framework Bootcamp, also known as NCSF Bootcamp, followed the R.I. Department of Labor and Training’s cybersecurity roundtable discussion with Gov. Gina M. Raimondo held Oct. 23 to discover industry pain points around cybersecurity talent issues and develop solutions.
“Governor Raimondo stressed the importance of protecting the digital security of our citizens, institutions and businesses,” said John Smithers, CEO of Tech Collective, in a statement. “To ensure improved security and economic growth, business and academic leaders agree a new level of collaboration is required. Tech Collective is pleased to be taking direction from the cybersecurity working group to develop this and future programs.”
The new NCSF Bootcamp, sponsored by Washington Trust, combines the NCSF Foundation Course, NCSF Practitioner Course and the NCSF Certification Exam into a single weeklong program.
