Tennis Hall of Fame CEO to be honored

FLORENCE, Ore. – The International Sports Heritage Association has selected Mark Stenning, CEO of the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum in Newport, to receive the ISHA’s highest honor, the Schroeder Award for Distinguished Service.
The award recognizes his dedication to and long-time leadership of the Tennis Hall of Fame and his many contributions to the sports-heritage industry during his 27-year tenure, the ISHA said.
As CEO, Stenning oversees the Hall of Fame’s staff, its $5 million annual operating budget and its events, including the annual enshrinement ceremony. He also acts as tournament director and represents the organization’s interest on the ATP tour.
He is a member of the boards of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Synergy Events Inc. and the Newport County Convention & Vistors Bureau; the board of trustees of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County; and the Athletics Advisory Board at Roger Williams University. He also serves as a board member for the NewportFed Charitable Foundation, a corporator for BankNewport, and a governor of the Newport Health Care Corporation.
In addition, Stenning currently serves on the United States Tennis Association’s Davis Cup and Fed Cup committees, the Centenary Tennis Association’s committee of management and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Achievement Awards Selection Panel. He was a member of the USTA’s nominating committee from 2003 to 2004.
Stenning will receive the Schroeder Award next Thursday in Macon, Ga., during the President’s Dinner at the ISHA’s 37th Annual Conference. Presenting will be Tony Trabert, the Tennis Hall of Fame’s president and a Hall of Famer since 1970.
The International Sports Heritage Association – founded in 1971 as the Association of Sports Museums and Halls of Fame – is dedicated to helping its member institutions to preserve sports history and educate future generations.
