WARWICK – Thundermist Health Center hosted a monthlong celebration in recognition of Children’s Dental Health Month in February with a coloring contest and educational visits to local schools.

Children were invited to participate in a coloring contest, coloring a drawing available for download on social media and dropped off at Thundermist dental locations. Thundermist will announce winners early this month.

Dental staff also visited schools and youth programs to educate children on good oral health habits. Thundermist staff and representatives of the R.I Department of Health visited Citizens Elementary School in Woonsocket and HeadStart in South County to educate children and parents on the importance of oral health.

“Children should get their first dental checkup by age 1,” said Eric Prosseda, Thundermist Health Center dental director. “Baby teeth are important for the overall health and development of children. They help with nutrition, speaking and socializing. Baby teeth also play a role in the healthy development of a child’s adult teeth.”
