Twisting wire into jewelry offered Krystal Amaral a creative outlet during her time in law school.
Now an attorney, Amaral is still making jewelry – and selling the creations, as well as those of other area artisans at her Tiverton store, Created Purpose.
Maintaining her own business – Amaral is the shop’s sole employee – while also logging 40 hours per week as a lawyer is no easy feat, she acknowledged. But thanks to the backing of a supportive artist community, she has accomplished both, establishing her business as a well-known fixture in the community with more than 70 artists’ work for sale.
The shop offers everything from jewelry to glassware, blankets, books and even driftwood dreamcatchers.
But it’s not just an outlet for selling product – it’s also a space designed to foster customers’ own creativity, Amaral said.
Artist and artisan-led classes – in everything from watercolors to beekeeping – are the business’s mainstay, offering a way to make Created Purpose stand out in the sea of artisan craft stores.
“I always say, ‘If you see something in the store, you can make it yourself,’ ” Amaral said.
