Tourism industry helps visitors with rising gas costs

For the third straight year, the R.I. Tourism Division and other tourism industry partners have collaborated to bring Rhode Island visitors “More Smiles per Gallon,” a coupon-driven campaign offering discounts to more than 30 Rhode Island destinations.

The statewide marketing effort, developed three years ago by the state tourism division and regional tourism organizations, helps lower the costs of attractions, restaurants, shops, museums and other Rhode Island establishments while gas prices continue to climb.

“With higher travel costs taking a bigger chunk out of a vacation budget, the ‘More Smiles per Gallon’ campaign will help families get the most for their money enjoying Rhode Island’s cultural and recreational attractions,” state tourism director
David C. DePetrillo said. “With these discounts there is no need for anyone to miss out on the fun. That makes it a win for both visitors and the tourism industry.”

Destinations including Diamond Hill Vineyards in Cumberland, Regal
Reptiles Adventure Center in Providence, Grandview Bed and Breakfast in Westerly,
Fairfield in by Marriott in Warwick and the Audubon Society of Rhode Island
Environmental Education Center in Bristol offer discounts from June 9 through
Sept. 30.
