WARWICK – Traffic at T.F. Green Airport increased 24.9 percent in February, according to the R.I. Airport Corp. Friday.

A total of 295,542 passengers utilized the airport in the second month of the year, compared with 236,582 one year prior, an increase of 58,960. Of those passengers, 151,608 were enplaned at T.F. Green, a 24.74 percent increase year over year from 121,543 in February 2017.

The increased traffic continues to largely come from the discount airlines that the R.I. Airport Corp. introduced to T.F. Green in 2017. Allegiant Airlines, Frontier Airlines and Norwegian Air accounted for a combined 46,481 passengers in February, whereas none of the three airlines operated at T.F. Green at this time last year.

By itself, Frontier was the third-largest airline provider by total passengers located at T.F. Green in February with 29,892, after Southwest Airlines (117,643) and American Airlines (69,347).

The airport’s cargo capacity also continued its strong upswing in February, increasing 200.3 percent year over year to 5.5 million pounds from February 2017’s 1.8 million pounds. The cargo-processing growth can largely be attributed to traffic related to the Amazon fulfillment center in Fall River.

ABX Air and Atlas Air, both known for processing shipping for Amazon.com Inc., shipped 2.3 million pounds and 1.2 million pounds, respectively, through T.F. Green in February. Federal Express accounted for 1.1 million pounds of cargo while United Parcel Service accounted for 675,372 pounds.
