Treasury releases $8 million for RI Transport projects

U.S. Senator Lincoln Chafee has announced that the U.S. Treasury has released a total of $8,178,441 to the state of Rhode Island to fund three transportation projects: repairs to the Washington Bridge, construction of the Blackstone River Bikeway, and safety improvements to Interstate 295.

In a letter last year to the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), Chafee requested that funding be included in the FY 2002 Transportation Appropriations bill for the Washington Bridge and the Blackstone River Bikeway.

Funding for both projects, as well as for Route 295, were included in the bill, which was signed by President George W. Bush this past Dec. Rhode Island will receive $3,763,620 for the Washington Bridge, $1.5 million for the Blackstone River Bikeway, and $2,914,821 for Interstate 295.
