TripAdvisor: Block Island ranks No. 3 for hottest summer destinations

NEW SHOREHAM – Block Island was named No. 3 on TripAdvisor Inc.’s Hottest U.S. Destinations For Summer 2018, the travel planning and booking site announced Tuesday.

The rankings were based on the top 10 domestic destinations for United States travelers this summer based on the greatest increase in seasonal hotel booking interest, including the average one-week vacation costs for hotels and airfare.

TripAdvisor said that the average summer nightly hotel on Block Island was $355 per night, The average summer week expense per person was estimated to be $2,857. It recommended visitors explore the Southeast Lighthouse, eat at Kimberly’s and said that it considered the best value hotel on the island to be Rose Farm Inn at $256 per night on its own booking platform.

Mackinac Island, Mich., ranked No. 1 this year, followed by Bar Harbor, Maine, at No. 2. Two other New England locales made the list this year, with Martha’s Vineyard ranking No. 7 and Nantucket ranking No. 10.

In another summer destination ranking, the Providence-Warwick-Fall River metropolitan area ranked No. 79 among the top 100 most populated metro areas in the country in a WalletHub report on the Best Places to Visit in Summer released Wednesday.

Providence ranked No. 67 for its “travel costs and hassles,” No. 89 for local costs, No. 63 for its attractions, and No. 72 for weather.

The Washington, D.C., metro area ranked No. 1 in the Wallethub report.
