Tufts Health Plan to reward members for choosing lower-cost providers

PROVIDENCE – Tufts Health Plan members in Rhode Island and Massachusetts can now earn rewards for choosing more cost-efficient providers for health care and services such as imaging and certain surgeries.

Tufts announced the launch of its “MyRewards” program Monday. The program allows members to earn gift cards ranging in value from $50 to $100 for choosing providers and services that offer incentives.

Members can access the program through Tufts’ website, which allows users to find providers and estimated costs of treatment. MyRewards is also available on Tufts’ mobile app.

The program is meant to encourage members to make informed decisions when it comes to choosing physicians and services, said Jim Gallagher, vice president of marketing and product strategy at Tufts Health Plan.

“The cost of health care services can vary widely – sometimes by hundreds or even thousands of dollars – depending on where our members go for their care,” Gallagher said in a statement. “We do all we can to support our members as they make their health care decisions, and MyRewards is another way to do that. It’s easy to use and offers financial incentives to members who are looking for lower-cost providers and services without sacrificing quality.”

Tufts Health Plan covers over 36,000 people in Rhode Island.

Services eligible for MyRewards include, but are not limited to:

  • Bariatric and carpal tunnel surgery
  • Colonoscopy and endoscopy procedures
  • Echocardiograms
  • Hip and knee replacements
  • Mammograms
  • Certain maternity care
  • Imaging such as PET or CT scans and MRIs
