PROVIDENCE – Dr. Methodius G. Tuuli has been named interim president of Women & Infants Hospital, Care New England Health System announced Monday. Tuuli will take the reins from Dr. Shannon Sullivan, who stepped down in October after leading Women & Infants Hospital for five years to become the CEO of Connecticut Children’s Health System in Hartford, Conn.

PROVIDENCE – Dr. Methodius G. Tuuli has been named interim president of Women & Infants Hospital, Care New England Health System announced Monday. Tuuli will take the reins from Dr. Shannon Sullivan, who stepped down in October after leading Women & Infants Hospital for five years to become the CEO of Connecticut Children’s Health System in Hartford, Conn. A national search has commenced to find a permanent president. Tuuli has served as chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Women & Infants and executive chief of obstetrics and gynecology for Care New England Health System since 2021. He also leads the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University as the Chace-Joukowsky professor and chairman. He was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2023. “Method is an exceptional leader, not just at Women & Infants, but in our community. He consistently demonstrates vision, integrity and unwavering commitment to our patients and staff,” said Dr. Michael Wagner, CEO and president of Care New England. “By appointing him to this role, we know he will continue to guide our hospital into its next chapter of excellence.” Tuuli earned his medical degree from the University of Ghana Medical School in 2001. He attended the University of California at Berkeley, earning a Master of Public Health degree in 2003 with a concentration in maternal and child health. He completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Emory University in 2008 and fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Washington University in 2011. Tuuli completed the Business of Medicine Physician MBA program at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in 2020. “The team here at Women & Infants Hospital is exceptional, and I am honored to step in during this transition,” Tuuli said. “Together, we will continue strengthening the high-quality care our community depends on, while we transition to the next president.”
