Two R.I. companies named to 2017 Civic 50 list

PROVIDENCE – CVS Health Corp. and Hasbro Inc. made the Civic 50 list, and initiative of the Points of Light, a global organization dedicated to supporting volunteerism. The Civic 50 recognizes companies that “use their time, skills and other resources to improve the quality of life in their communities,” according to the Points of Light website.

This isn’t the first time Pawtucket-based Hasbro has made the list. The toy, game and entertainment company made the Points of Light Civic 50 Honoree list in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016. This year is the first time CVS made the list.

Potential honorees can be either public or private, with United States operations and revenue of $1 billion or more. Points of Light evaluates surveys of the applying companies based on four categories, investment, integration, institutionalization and impact, which the group defines as follows:

  • Investment: How extensively and strategically the company applies its resources to community engagement in the U.S., including employee time and skills, cash, in-kind giving and public leadership.
  • Integration: How a company’s U.S. community engagement program supports business interests and integrates into business functions, or how it “does well by doing good.”
  • Institutionalization: How the company supports community engagement in the U.S. through its organizational policies, systems and incentives.
  • Impact: How the company measures the social and business outputs and outcomes of its U.S. community engagement program.

National companies with significant Rhode Island operations UnitedHealth Group and The Raytheon Co., also made the honorees list.
