U.S. News: The Miriam best hospital in R.I.

PROVIDENCE – The Miriam Hospital was ranked the No. 1 hospital in Rhode Island and the Providence metropolitan area by U.S. News & World Report.

The second-highest ranked hospital in the Providence metro area was Southcoast Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River (Southcoast Charlton also was ranked the No. 8 hospital in Massachusetts).

No other hospitals in the area were ranked in the report, released on July 30.

The Miriam was ranked No. 27 in the United States for urology and was considered “high performing” for five other specialties – diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, and pulmonology and lung surgery. The Miriam also was ranked “high performing” in five procedures and conditions.

Southcoast Charlton earned a high-performance ranking in one adult specialty, and three procedures and conditions.

This year, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., ranked No. 1 nationally, followed by Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
