DARTMOUTH – Former World Energy Solutions CEO Phil Adams will serve as the interim director of University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship starting July 25 per a July 20 announcement by the school.

Calling the opportunity “especially exciting,” in prepared remarks Adams said: “The CIE is poised to accelerate the growth of the regional economy, I am looking forward to helping the university and community stakeholders identify the right opportunities and create the right strategies for success.”

Adams, who replaces former CIE director Toby Stapleton who held the role since 2015 and is currently the dean of graduate studies and continuing education at Salve Regina University, is joining the school at a time when it seeks to strengthen the ties between the CIE and the College of Engineering and the Charlton College of Business.

“The CIE is a critical economic development asset for the region,” said UMass Dartmouth Chancellor Robert E. Johnson in a statement “and Phil is going to play an important role in helping us imagine and invent the future of the center as an innovation and job creation engine.”
