DARTMOUTH – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth College of Engineering and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport hosted a FIRST LEGO League qualifier this month at the college’s science and engineering building.

The theme this year is “Into Orbit,” focusing on space and astronauts. FIRST LEGO League teams create using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology, apply math and science knowledge, and work collaboratively.

Students from 24 southeastern Massachusetts schools in grades 4 through 8 participated, according to UMass Dartmouth, using robots they have been building and testing since the start of school.

The event was supported by FIRST Robotics Competition Team 5846, based in Dartmouth.
