PROVIDENCE – The UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation, a Minneapolis, Minn.-based nonprofit wing of United HealthCare Services Inc., is seeking grant applications from Rhode Island families in need of financial assistance to help pay for children’s health care treatments, services or equipment not covered, or not fully covered, by their commercial health insurance plan, the organization announced Monday.

Families that qualify may receive up to $5,000 annually, with a $10,000 lifetime limit for children of 16 years of age or younger. Services that fall under the purview of the grant include physical, occupational and speech therapy, counseling services, surgeries, prescriptions, wheelchairs, orthotics, eyeglasses and hearing aids.

To date, UHCCF has awarded seven grants worth nearly $24,000 in Rhode Island.

Families may apply at www.uhccf.org.
