KINGSTON VILLAGE – The 2005 Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index has ranked the University of Rhode Island’s department of environmental and natural resource economics the fourth most productive research department in the country in the field of agricultural economics.
The index rates the scholarly output of faculty members at nearly 7,300 doctoral programs throughout the country. It looks at the books and journal articles published by the faculty and journal citations, awards, honors and grants that they have received.

“I could not be prouder of the accomplishment,” said Jeffrey R. Seemann, dean of the URI College of the Environment and Life Sciences. “It reflects the commitment of a cadre of outstanding faculty.”
URI was the first university in the nation to offer a graduate degree in natural resource economics, and of the top 10 schools on the list, it has the fewest faculty members – 10. It ranked behind Colorado State University, Iowa State University and the University of California at Berkeley.
