SOUTH KINGSTOWN – In collaboration with South Kingstown-based entertainment venue Pump House Music Works, the University of Rhode Island is set to host its third annual Guitar Festival April 6-8.
“Little by little we are growing this fledgling guitar community into a flourishing epicenter of musical activity,” Adam Levin, the festival’s director and a prize-winning classical guitarist and URI music instructor, said of the festival’s impact.
With the third iteration of the festival, he hopes to add an international flair with artists and music genres from South Africa, Israel, the Netherlands and Croatia among the programmatic focuses.
During the second festival, URI paired production with the Wheeler School in Providence – involving students and their families. This year, the state’s flagship research institute wants to focus a little closer to its campus in South Kingstown. The first two days’ worth of festival events will take place at the Pump House Music Works facility at 1464 Kingstown Road and the third day at URI’s Kingston campus Fine Arts Center.
In addition to Pump House Music Works, other sponsors for the festival include the Augustine Foundation, D’Addario Foundation, the University of Rhode Island Department of Music, Wakefield Music Services, Alhambra Guitars, Kenny Hill Guitars, Joseph Burros, Coastal HVAC and Aaron Green Guitars.
Active participation passes for the weekend include access to master classes, concerts, open mics, ensemble workshops and lectures, and are available for $110. Single-day auditor passes for days two or three are $50 each; a three-day auditor pass is $80. Tickets to concerts are sold on a show-to-show basis and are $7 for students and $12 for general admission.
