Verizon to add sites in Coventry, Newport

Coventry and Newport residents may soon be able to hear you now.

Verizon Wireless announced this week that it will add new cell sites, increasing its coverage and capacity in Coventry Center, Salve Regina University and the southern tip of Newport.

According to a press release from the company, the expansion is part of its “aggressive” multi-billion dollar annual investment “to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless voice and data services.”

Last year, the company invested $5.5 billion in its efforts to expand.

According to the release, Verizon added 1.9 million net new customers in the third quarter of 2005.
